A place of encounter

Let's meet at the Schuster!
‘How about going to the Schusters?’ – That’s something our grandparents said back in the day. Located south of the Brenner Pass at the entrance to the Pflerschtal valley, nestled in the heart of Colle Isarco/Gossensass’ historic centre, Hotel Schuster has always been a place to encounter people from all walks of life. No matter where it is they are going – a pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago, a cycling tour through the Alps or a road trip by car or motorcycle – this South Tyrolean inn offers visitors all the necessary comforts in a relaxed atmosphere. Take in the area’s unspoilt natural beauty when you go hiking, climbing or mountain biking in summer or skiing, sledging or ski touring in winter. It is also an ideal starting point for exciting day trips to destinations in Italy, Austria and Germany.
Take the opportunity to sit back and savour our family’s warm hospitality whilst experiencing unforgettable Alpine adventures.

A place with plenty of stories to tell…
The first written record of the ‘house with a small herb garden’ dates back to the Teutonic Order in 1685. It had already boasted a rich history by the time our family acquired it in 1785.
Following a destructive blaze in 1890, Maria Benedikter and Stephan Schuster – a local official, merchant and imperial and royal postman of the Austrian Empire – rebuilt their home. Joseph Schuster, Maria and Stephan’s son, and his wife Dorothea Gröbner – whose family owned the luxurious Palasthotel in Gossensass – took over and transformed the small grocer-cum-post office into a confectionery and guest house in 1924. Dorothea and her daughter Erika would continue to make improvements to the premises over the course of time. In 1972, Erika Schuster, her husband Ferdinand Plank and their children, Gerda and Gerold, refurbished and renovated the entire building, paving the way for the next generation.
Gerold, his wife Helga and their sons Valentin and Vivian are now in charge of the hotel.

Space for sustainability

Because the environment and the future are also important to us…
Our family is a member of the Economy for the Common Good movement, which means that we try to protect the environment however we can. We believe in treating people, animals and nature with respect. Many different kinds of birds, bees and butterflies feel very much at home in our organic garden, for example. It is also where our deliciously fresh fruit and vegetables come from – a source of delight for young and old alike.
Hotel Restaurant Schuster Tyrolean Specialities

Our restaurant’s regional cuisine offers everything from Tyrolean delicacies to Mediterranean and Italian dishes. Our ingredients mostly come from local mountain farmers and producers in the Wipptal valley – we offer a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables in season, and in the summer we flavour our dishes with fresh herbs from our organic garden.
